On April 20, Richmond Sports Backers held the Monument Avenue 10k and the Atlantic Union Bank 10k Mini – a run especially made to give kids a chance to participate and get active. Both races went off wonderfully! We had many Teammates volunteer at events throughout the week to make sure the run went well. In addition to helping with packet pick-up at the raceway, we had employees manning our Atlantic Union Bank tent, handing out popcorn and getting excited with everyone for race day.
We couldn’t have asked for better weather, as it was a sunny and moderately cool day for the 10k and the 10k Mini. Watching the kids run, many of them in their first race, was so exciting to see. And the chance for many of them to run a race with their parents or other family members was thrilling! You could see family traditions being started in real time.
The 10k Mini is such a great event because it helps children be active. Being active as a child is a great indicator for someone who will remain active and healthy as an adult, and getting the community moving more can help everyone feel better.
With the Monument Avenue 10k being a popular Richmond tradition, the 10k mini is a great way for kids to get in on the action too. And they had a great time, with many of the pint-sized runners choosing to hang around waiting for older siblings and other family members to finish the main race while hanging out in the post-race zone.
We look forward to continuing to participate in this Richmond tradition and can’t wait to see even more kids out next year!
