Cybersecurity Month: Reminders for staying safe

For Cybersecurity Month, Atlantic Union Bank (AUB) wants to share a few helpful tips that you can use to keep your information safe.

  1. Protect your passwords – It seems like almost every website needs a User ID and a password these days. That can tempt people to use passwords that are simple so they’re easier to remember or into reusing passwords over multiple sites. However, it’s important to use a strong password for every website that requires one. That can be made easier by using a password manager that automatically and securely saves every password you use.
  2. Activate multi-factor authentication – An extra, important layer of security for your account is called multi-factor authentication (MFA). MFA means that two pieces of information are needed to log into an account. Often, those two pieces are your password and a code that is emailed or texted to your phone. That way, if someone cracks your password, they couldn't hack into your account without also having access to your phone.
  3. Update software – One of the best ways to make sure your data is protected is to make sure that all of your software and apps are current. When security weaknesses are discovered, they are most often fixed by updating the software. Whether it is an app or operating system for your phone or computer, it's important to update them as often as possible.

Join us in our quest to keep your personal data safe! You can stop scammers, particularly during October's Cybersecurity month, when you have AUB on your side in the fight against fraud.
