Sherry Williams
Chief Risk Officer
Bio
I’m delighted to serve as Chief Risk Officer at Atlantic Union Bank, bringing in over 30 years of experience in risk management, auditing and financial reporting across institutions ranging from $7 billion to $2 trillion in assets. Throughout my career, my interest in risk management has grown through first-hand experience of how its value and impact can affect financial institutions.
As Atlantic Union Bank continues to transform, I am committed to embedding strong risk management practices that not only support the bank’s transformation but also align with regulatory expectations and the desired business objectives. Ensuring appropriate controls are in place is crucial to achieving growth and maintaining trust with our stakeholders.
I hold a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Central Connecticut State University and a doctorate in business administration from Temple University. Additionally, I maintain professional certifications as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), which complement my expertise in both financial and technology risk.
Outside of work, I am dedicated to serving my community. I’m an active board member of the YWCA of Richmond and contribute to the Commonwealth of Virginia as a member of the Virginia Lottery Board. I enjoy traveling and have explored six of the seven continents, with Australia holding a special place in my heart. I’m also an avid sports fan and enjoy watching a good NFL game or Premier League match on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon.
