Promoting Internship Opportunities

Atlantic Union Bank (AUB) is committed to enhancing and improving the communities where our customers live, work and play. Our culture of giving back allows us to engage with our teammates and partners to fulfill our mission of enriching the lives of the people and communities we serve.

To better serve our communities and extend opportunities to all, we’ve created two internship programs that help college students gain foundational skills and experience to start a professional network. We provide a summer internship with AUB to give students of diverse backgrounds exposure to different career and development possibilities. We’ve also created a sponsorship grant that allows other community-based organizations (CBOs) in our footprint the opportunity to hire interns with funds awarded to them by us.

Future Impact Makers Internship Sponsorship Grant

We created the Future Impact Makers Internship Sponsorship Grant as an initiative to support pay equity and workforce development for low-to-moderate income students within the community-based sector. Our goal is to support organizations in removing barriers to these critical professional opportunities for students in higher education regardless of economic status.

We seek out community-based organizations within our footprint and provide awardees with financial support through grant dollars, as well as professional support by allowing them to develop an internship program for their organization. Funds from this grant are designated for an hourly wage paid to the student(s) who receive an internship opportunity (a minimum of $15 per hour) and for professional development opportunities like attending conferences.

The program has proven to be so successful over the years that we’re able to double the number of awardees in 2024 from 15 to 30. The Future Impact Makers grant not only allows organizations to provide jobs for students but also increases awareness of career pathways within Atlantic Union Bank.

Diversity Internship Program

Atlantic Union Bank embraces diversity of thought and identity to better serve our stakeholders and achieve our purpose. We commit to cultivating a welcoming workplace where teammate and customer perspectives are valued and respected.

In 2017, we created the Diversity Summer Internship Program to provide professional development opportunities for local diverse students and help them gain practical work experience. The program’s goal is to offer professional career experience through strategic work assignments and meaningful projects, designed to allow talented undergraduate and graduate students to experience the various scope of career opportunities in banking. Atlantic Union partners with academic institutions that foster a diverse student population, aligning with our goals for this program, and for our organization. Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU’s) and additional academic institutions are accepted based on interested and eligible students.

This internship program, headed by our Manager of DEI & Culture Engagement, has been able to provide students with career exposure in many areas within our bank including Community Development, Digital Strategy, Marketing, Wealth Management and many others. We’re so excited to be able to help college students learn about different areas of banking that they can add to their work experience for future endeavors.
