Sun, Sand and Soccer! AUB sponsors the 30th annual North American Sand Soccer Championships.
The 30th annual North American Sand Soccer Championships (NASSC) was held from June 7 – 9 in Virginia Beach as soccer teams from all over the world faced off in “the world’s largest celebration of beach sports culture.” Atlantic Union Bank was proud to be the presenting sponsor of this event for the second year in a row.
You couldn’t have asked for a better weekend for these teams to go head-to-head for a chance at the 2024 NASSC title. The AUB sponsorship tent provided a clear view of the main field for our customers and Teammates to come to watch the U.S. Open pros play, relax and enjoy some refreshments. Wholesale Relationship Manager, Bonnie Stretz, spent most of the weekend with us in the AUB tent eagerly waiting to watch her daughter, Sheyenne’s team, Beach Soccer Virginia Beach, place in the U.S. Women’s Open – and they did, winning 3rd place!
Consumer and Business Banking Group Executive, Shawn O’Brien and Business Banking and SBA Lending Group President, John Young, were there to root for some of the youth teams as well. Our volunteers also had a blast cheering on the competitors and seeing some world-class sand soccer.
The annual NASSC event is the globe’s premier single-weekend sand soccer festival with over 11,000 players. It’s a great experience for people of all ages to participate in, playing a sport they love while enjoying the ambience of the beach. With over 100,000 people in attendance during sand soccer weekend, the city of Virginia Beach and its local shops and restaurants also see a benefit. Proceeds from the championship games go toward the Hampton Roads Soccer Complex, supporting facility improvements and enhancements.
